If you’ve ever had your trail ride cut short by your ATV falling into a ditch, you know how difficult it can be to get your ATV unstuck. Luckily, there are some things you can do to help get your ride back on track. Follow these steps from the experts at Agri Center, and you’ll have the ATV unstuck in no time.

1. Use a Winch

The best tool for getting an ATV unstuck is a winch. All you need to do is attach one end to the front or back of the stuck ATV and the other end to another vehicle, and you should have your ATV out in a jiffy. If you don’t think there’ll be another vehicle on hand to assist you, you can pack a “come-along”, a small hand-powered winch, along with some tow straps.

2. Create Your Own Anchor

If you find yourself with no come-along and no vehicle to help tow your ATV out of the muck, you’ll have to make your own anchor. Any large, stationary object will do, including a large tree or stump. If you’re having trouble finding a proper anchor, you can use a set of ice-climbing anchors or a small steel rod with an eye bolt.

3. Bring a Shovel

There are times where you might not be able to find or create an anchor. In these situations, your best recourse is to try digging your tires out using a collapsible shovel. The idea is to create enough traction to allow your vehicle to escape.

4. Tilt Your ATV Back and Forth

Another strategy you can employ is rocking the ATV back and forth using your body weight. If you lean into the motion, you should be able to inch your quad forward just enough that it’ll be able to find purchase.
