ATV Mudding Trip Preparation
Before you enjoy a day full of mudding, you’ll want to prepare yourself and your ATV for the journey. Use the following tips to set yourself up for a successful outing!
Wear the Right Gear
You should always endeavor to wear the correct safety gear when riding your ATV, including a helmet with a face shield or goggles, long sleeves, pants, riding gloves and sturdy boots with good treads. You should bear in mind that whatever you wear is going to get really dirty and it may become stained.
Get a Snorkel Kit
If you’re serious about mudding—and mudding hard—you’ll probably want a snorkel kit. These often come with extended CVT inlets, extended air intakes, and outlet exhausts. This way, there’s significantly less chance that you’ll get water and mud inside the machine.
Install a Winch
Many ATVs come with a winch, or offer one as an add-on, but if yours doesn’t, then consider getting one installed. Winches are incredibly helpful for a variety of reasons. It can help you load game when you’re hunting and even help you load your quad. When you’re mudding, you might find yourself or a friend stuck in some particularly thick, sticky terrain. It happens even to the most experienced riders. This is where you might want a winch handy. You’ll want to put your winch in a free spool and pull out the entire line for an inspection. When you want to spool the winch line back in, you’ll need to apply pressure, either with a second pair of hands or around an immovable object.
